Question 235627: can u please explain the logarithm 3log2x-log2x=8? by the way the log has a base of 2. the book said that the answer was 8.1 but i dont understand how they got that. this is wat i did:
3log2x-log2x=8
log2x%5E3-log2x=8
log2%28x%5E3%2Fx%29=8
2%5E8=x%5E3%2Fx
256=x%5E3%2Fx

and thats as far as i got

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3log2x-log2x=8
log%282%2Cx%5E3%29-log%282%2Cx%29=8
log%282%2C%28x%5E3%2Fx%29%29=8
2%5E8=x%5E3%2Fx
256=x%5E3%2Fx
and thats as far as i got
256+=+x%5E2
x = ±16
Since it's inside the log function, the -16 is rejected.

You were almost there.
I don't see how it can be 8, unless there's a typo.
