Question 230705: I have a word problem using linear equations. it is asking for an equation that expresses the relationship between the income earned and the miles traveled for a round trip? info given is round trip rental $30.00 per day and 10 cents per mile driven over 250......... if using the y=mx+b m,the coefficient on x, is the slope of the graph. my question is--- do you have a way to explain this for someone who stinks at math? in laymans terms. please and thank you.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! equation that expresses the relationship between the income earned and the miles traveled for a round trip? info given is round trip rental $30.00 per day and 10 cents per mile driven over 250...
:
Let x = miles driven over 250
y = earned income
then
y = .10x Would be the cost of the mileage over 250 only
Now add the fixed cost which is given as $30
y = .1x + 30; is the form; y = mx + b
:
However this equation is only good if you drove 250 or more in one day
:
If you drove exactly 250 miles, x would be 0 and the cost would be just $30, right?
