Question 229728: Plane A leaves LA for NY at 500 mph, at the same time plane B leaves NY for LA at 650 mph. The towns are 3000 miles apart. How will it take for the planes to meet.
Okay I know distance = rate x time and can figure out that it will take 6 hours for plane A to complete the 3000 miles and 4.6 hours for plane B but how do I set up an equation using distance to find out when the planes will meet?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Their speeds are added when going in opposite directions.
550 + 650 = 1150 mph
3000/1150 = 2.609 hours
