You can put this solution on YOUR website! x=7y 4x+2y=36
 4*7y+2y=36
 28y+2y=36
 30y=36
 y=36/30
 y=6/5 ans.
 x=7*6/5=42/5 ans.
 Proof:
 4*42/5+2*6/5=36
 168/5+12/5=36
 180/5=36
 36=36

You can put this solution on YOUR website! one number is seven times a second number. four times the smaller number plus twice the larger number equals 36. find the number
 Let the smaller number be S, and the larger number L

 Since the larger is 7 times the smaller, then L = 7S

 And, since 4 times the smaller number, plus twice the larger number = 36, then:
 4S + 2L = 36

 Therefore, we have: L  =  7S -----------(i)
 ....................................4S + 2L  = 36 ------ (ii)

 Subbstituting 7S for L in eq (ii), we get: 4S + 2(7S) = 36

 4S  +  14S  = 36

 18S  =  36

 S  =

 Since S, or the smaller number =
  , then the larger number, or L =  ---- (7 * 2)
