I mad the denominators 8y and came up with a answer of - 2, but the book has the answer as being 2/5.
Could you please help me find my mistake?

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 4y - 3 / 8 + 3 / 4y = y + 3 / 2
4y - 3/8 + (3/4)y = y + 3/2 I think that's what you mean
Multiply thru by 8
32y - 3 + 6y = 8y + 12
38y - 3 = 8y + 12
30y = 15
y = 1/2
------------
If that's not right, add some parentheses to clarify the problem.
