I'd never thought of it before, but I suppose you could square each of the terms, then take twice the product of each combination of terms.

a%5E2+%2B+b%5E2%2Bc%5E2+%2B+2ab+%2B+2ac+%2B+2bc

I guess that would do it, right?

Try it out:


= x%5E4+%2B+9x%5E2+%2B+25+-6x%5E3%2B+10x%5E2+-30x
= x%5E4+-+6x%5E3+%2B+19x%5E2+-30x+%2B+25

I don't know! It probably is easier (and safer!) to just multiply it out the regular way. Maybe that's why I never heard of this "shortcut"!!
