You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two flower seeds are randomly selected from a package that contains 5 seeds for red flowers and 12 seeds fro white flowers. (Provide answers correct to 3 decimal places.)
a) What is the probability that both seeds will result in red flowers?
Ans:5C2/17C2 = (5/17)(4/16) = 5/68
-----------------------------------------
c) What is the probablity that both seeds are for white flowers?
Ans: 12C2/17C2 = (12/17)(11/16) = 33/68
----
b) What is the probability that one of each color is selected?
Ans: P(one of each) = 1-[p(both red)+P(both white)]
P(one of each) = 1-[5/68 + 33/68] = 30/68
------------
Comment: It is easier to find the answer for question b AFTER
figuring the answer for question a and question c.
