Question 227960: how do you solve the equation -3.2 + q = -12.3
Answer by JenniferTutors(83) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! -3.2 + q = -12.3
Get "q" by itself on one side of the equation. Since "-3.2" is already negative, you would add that number to the other side of the equation (on the side with "-12.3"). The problem would look like this:
q = -12.3 + 3.2
Now, you combine like terms; -12.3 + 3.2
Remember to keep the negative sign from the higher number (-12.3)
-12.3 - 3.2 = -9.1
q = -9.1
To check answer, plug "-9.1" back into the original equation.
