1%3Cx means the same as x%3E1. x represents ANY number that is GREATER than 1. For example 2, 3, 4, etc. Draw a numberline and locate the number 1 on this numberline. Shade everything to the RIGHT of 1. You do NOT want to include the number 1, so you can either use an open circle, or a parentheses opening to the right, whichever notation your teacher tells you to use.
