Question 226098: Directions: Translate each sentence into an equation. Then find four solutions for each equation. Write the solutions as ordered pairs. Graph each equation.
1.) Some number is four more than a second number.
Am I supposed to use y=mxtb or use a normal setup of equations? And when I did try y= 4(2)+b I only got 8. And I didn't know what to do with the two variables. So would I do the slope first? I didn't try that because they don't list four different numbers in the question; but I can't complete y=mxtb without knowing what b is. Thanks for your help!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Some number:
A second number:

"is" means equals

Some number () is (=) four more than a second number ()

Pick a value, any value, for . Substitute that value in place of in the equation. Calculate the value of that results from your choice of . Finally, create the ordered pair that represents that solution by writing where is the value you chose and is the value that resulted from your choice. For example, let , then , so your ordered pair is (1,5).

Follow the above steps three more times using different values of .

One more thing: The slope-intercept form of the equation of a line is not y=mxtb, it is y = mx + b.
