Question 22568: A famous mathematician of the 1800's once said: "I was x years old in the year x squared." In what year did the mathematician say this, and what year was he born? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let "x" be the age of the mathematician.
Then x^2 is between 1700 and 1800
Take the sqrt throughout the inequality to get
[41.23 < x < 42.43]
Since the man's age is an integer he must have
been 42.
