Could you please show me how to work this problem. My child is having a hard time and I cant remember how. IT has been to long.
I have p+15=s
3s+5p=101

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is right so far:
p%2B15=s
3s%2B5p=101
Substitute the s into the second equation:
3%28p%2B15%29%2B5p=101
Distribute the 3:
3p%2B45%2B5p=101
Combine like terms:
8p%2B45=101
Move the 45 to the other side:
8p=56
Divide both sides by 8:
p=7
So this is how much he paid for a pair of shorts. ($7)
Plug this back into the first equation:
7%2B15=s
22=s
So, $22 for a shirt.
