I need help with my algebra 2. We are doing stuff with negative exponents
and notation. Please i need help. My grade is a 7%. HELP!!!!!!!!!
To simplify a problem with negative exponents:
1. If a negative exponential occurs as a factor of a numerator, move the
base and exponent from the numerator to the denominator and change the
sign of the exponent to positive.
2. If a negative exponential occurs as a factor of a denominator, move the
base and exponent from the denominator to the numerator and change the
sign of the exponent to positive.
Example:
  2-1x3y-2
 ----------
  2-3x-2y3
Move the 2-1 from the numerator to the denominator and change the sign of
the exponent -1 to +1
     x3y-2
 ------------
  212-3x-2y3
Leave the x3 where it is since it already has a positive exponent. Move the
y-2 from numerator to denominator and change the sign of the exponent -2 to
+2:
       x3
 ---------------
   212-3x-2y3y2
Move the 2-3 from denominator to numerator and change the
sign of the exponent -3 to +3:
     23x3
  -----------
   21x-2y3y2
Move the x-2 from denominator to numerator and change the
sign of the exponent -2 to +2:
   23x3x2
  --------
   21y3y2
Now all the exponents are positive. So we add the exponents of x3 and x2,
getting x5 in the numerator:
    23x5
  --------
   21y3y2
Now we add exponents of y3 and y2 getting y5 in the denominator
    23x5
  --------
    21y5
Now we subtract the exponents of 23 and 21, getting 22, placing the result
in the numerator because the larger exponent 3 is in the numerator:
    22x5
  --------
     y5
Finally we evaluate 22 as 4:
    4x5
  --------
     y5
