Area of a rectangle is Length times Width. In this case, perhaps you could call it Base times Height.

A = B*H
240 = B*15

In order to solve for B, you must divide both sides by 15:
240%2F15+=+%28B%2A15%29%2F15
16=B

Base = 16 inches.
