You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Soybean meal is 16% protein; cornmeal is 8% protein.
How many pounds of each should be mixed together in order to get 320-lb mixture that is 14% protein?
:
Let x = amt of soybean meal (16%)
Total mixture is to be 320 lb, therefore:
(320-x) = amt of cornmeal (8%)
:
A typical mixture equation:
.16x + .08(320-x) = .14(320)
:
.16x + 25.6 - .08x = 44.8
:
.16x - .08x = 44.8 - 25.6
:
.08x = 19.2
x = 19.2%2F.08
x = 240 lb of soy, the 16% stuff
then
320 - 240 = 80 lb of cornmeal, the 8% stuff

Check solution in mixture equation:
.16(240) + .08(80) = .14(320)
38.4 + 6.4 = 44.8
