Question 224671: I need help on finding the numerical value of the rational expression:
%2811x%2B6%29%2F%282x%5E2%2B26x%2B24%29%2C+%7B%7B%7Bx=2 and x=-3
I have answered correctly when x=2 which is 1/3, but when x=-3 I keep coming up with -27/-72 which simplifys to 3/8 right? my homework which is on online classes shows that the correct answer is 3/4, I would like to know how it ends up being 3/4 instead of 3/8. Your help is greatly appreciated!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

11x%2B6%2F2x%5E2%2B26x%2B24 x=2 and x=-3

I know where you are making a mistake. It is in red below:

%2811x%2B6%29%2F%282x%5E2%2B26x%2B24%29
%2811%28-3%29%2B6%29%2F%282red%28%28-3%29%5E2%29%2B26%28-3%29%2B24%29
%28-33%2B6%29%2F%282%28red%289%29%29-78%2B24%29
%28-27%29%2F%28red%2818%29-78%2B24%29
%28-27%29%2F%28-36%29
3%2F4

I believe you were squaring -3 and getting -9
instead of +9, because if the red 9 were a -9,
it would come out %28-27%29%2F%28-72%29
