You can put this solution on YOUR website!
For number one, since the fractions have unequal denominators, you can't add them right away. Therefore, you multiply -3/5 by 3, which doesnt change its value, but does change its denominator. Now, you can add the two fractions together. Note that adding a negative number signifies subtraction, and that when a number is subtracted from another negative number, it is almost like addition, just that the numbers are negative.
-9/15 - 2/15 = (-9 - 2)/15 = -11/15
For number two, we use the same concepts as number one. -44 is simply another way of writing -44/1, except that the /1 is implied when we write the number, so it becomes ignored. Now we need to change the denominators of -44 and 95. The simplified statement becomes
-352/8 - 3/8 + 760/8 - 5/8 = 400/8 = 50
Remembering that adding a negative number is the same as subtracting a number, the statement becomes
-455-123+1026-919+213-874 = -1132
