You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the number
11-x= x+6

Add +x to each side:
11-x +x = x+x +6
11 =2x +6

Subtrac 6 from each side:
11-6=2x +6-6
5=2x

Divide both sides by 2:
5%2F2=%282x%29%2F2
5%2F2=x

For an additional explanation of Word Problems and Equation Solving, see my own website by doing a "Bing" search for my last name "Rapalje". Look for my website "Rapalje Homepage" near the top of the search list. On my webpage, look for "Basic, Intermediate and College Algebra: One Step at a Time." Select "Basic Algebra" and look in "Chapter 1" for "1.08 Basic Equation Solving" and also "1.10 Word Problems Part I." This is my own non-traditional explanation that my own students ALL found easier to understand than the one given in traditional textbooks. See also the corresponding sections in my "MATH IN LIVING COLOR" pages in which I solved a lot of these types of problems in COLOR!!
