Last year at a certain car dealership the ratio of cars to suv's sold was 5 to 3. If 400 cars were sold, how many SUV's were sold?

Step 1. Let x be the number of SUVs sold.

Step 2. Form a ratio as follows:

5%2F3=400%2Fx=%28Number-Of-Cars-Sold%29%2F%28SUVs-Sold%29

Step 3. Multiply by 3x to get rid of denominators

3x%2A%285%2F3%29=3x%2A%28400%2Fx%29

5x=1200

Step 4. Divide by 5 to both sides of the equation

5x%2F5=1200%2F5

x=240

Step 5. ANSWER: The number of SUVs sold was 240.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
