Question 22301: Please help me with this problem:
An airplane takes 5 hours to travel a distance of 3360 km with a tail wind.
The return trip against the wind takes 5 hours and 36 minutes. Find
the speed of the wind and the speed of the plane in still air. Assume that
both speeds are constant during the trip.
Thanks
Sandy

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5.36----> = 5.60h
0.36/0.3 = 5.60
t = speed of plane
m = speed of wind
5(t+m)=3360 -------->5t+5m=3360------------->28(5t+5m=3360)
5.6(t-m)=3360 ------>5.6t-5.6m=3360--------->25(5.6t-5.6m-3360)

------>140t+140m=94080
------>140t-140m=84000
------>280t=178080
t=636

5(636+m)=3360
3180+5m=3360
5m=180
m=36

Hence, the speed of the plane is 636km/h and the speed of the wind is 36km/h.
