Question 222869: Hi. Im in gr.10 math and I was wondering if you could help me with this question. Also, if you could email me and help me study for my quiz (Im having trouble with math) i'd be very grateful.
Anyway, here's the question that Im having the most problems with:
Find the coordinates of the point of intersection of the graphs defines by each linear system.
e) a- 3/4b = -4
a + 1/4b = 0

a- 3/4b = -4
a + 1/4b = 0

Subtract the 1st equation from the 2nd to get:
b = 4

Substitute that into the 1st equation to get:
a - (3/4)4 = -4
a - 3 = -4
a = -1
-------------------
Solution: (b,a) = (4,-1)

Or, if you want to plot points, solve each equation for "a".
a = (3/4)b - 4
a = (-1/4)b
----
Points for the 1st equation would be (0,-4) (4,-1)
Points for the 2nd equation would be (0,0) (4,-1)
