Let x= speed in still water
c= speed of current
Rate = Dist/Time

x+c = rate with the stream= 500 feet/5 min
x-c= rate against the stream=360 feet/6 min

x+c=100
x-c=60

Add the equations together:
2x=160
x=80 ft/min= speed in still water

x+c=100
80+c=100
c=20 ft/min= speed of current
