Question 221284: (4+y)/5=y/z solve for y. I don't know how to get rid of the fractions! Found 2 solutions by nerdybill, drj:Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(4+y)/5=y/z
Multiply both sides by 5z
((4+y)/5)(5z)=(y/z)(5z)
(4+y)z = 5y
4z+yz = 5y
4z = 5y-yz
4z = y(5-z)
(4z)/(5-z) = y
Step 1. Multiply 5z to both sides of the equation to get rid of fractions!
Step 2. Subtract 5y+4z from both sides of the equation
Step 3. Factor out 5y on the left side of the equation
Step 4. Divide (z-5) to both sides of the equation
Step 5. ANSWER:
I hope the above steps were helpful.
