Mr. Owens traveled 623 miles in 7 hours. At the same rate, how many miles will he travel in 9 hours?

Step 1. speed = distance/time = 623 miles/ 7 hours =623/7 mph

Step 2. 623/7=x/9 where x is the number of miles traveled in 9 hours.

Step 3. Then x=623*9/7=801 where we multiplied by 9 to both sides of the equation in Step 2.

Step 4. ANSWER: Mr. Owens traveled 801 miles in 9 hours.
