First you must distribute the number (or variable) in front of the ( ) to the inside of the ( ). This is done by multiplying 5 times everything in the ( ). Then just solve for x. I will work the problem. If you have questions please let me know.
5(2x-3) + 8 = 9
10x-15 + 8 = 9
10x = 15 -8 + 9
10x = 16
x = 16/10 = 8/5 this answer will depend on what form your instuctor wants
