Question 218102: 2x+2/3y=4 and x-1/2y=7
Answer by drj(1380) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2x+2y/3=4 or 6x+2y=12 where we multiplied by 3 to both sides of the equation.

and

x-1y/2=7 or 2x-y=14 where we multiplied by 2 to both sides of the equation.

The system of linear equation is now

6x+2y=12
2x-y=14

Solved by pluggable solver: SOLVE linear system by SUBSTITUTION
Solve:
+system%28+%0D%0A++++6%5Cx+%2B+2%5Cy+=+12%2C%0D%0A++++2%5Cx+%2B+-1%5Cy+=+14+%29%0D%0A++We'll use substitution. After moving 2*y to the right, we get:
6%2Ax+=+12+-+2%2Ay, or x+=+12%2F6+-+2%2Ay%2F6. Substitute that
into another equation:
2%2A%2812%2F6+-+2%2Ay%2F6%29+%2B+-1%5Cy+=+14 and simplify: So, we know that y=-6. Since x+=+12%2F6+-+2%2Ay%2F6, x=4.

Answer: system%28+x=4%2C+y=-6+%29.

where the solutions also satisfies the original equations.
