Question 217292: Im trying to figure out how to solve this problem. Im not sure how to slove the systems of equations graphically.
y=3x-12
y=4x+2
Found 2 solutions by checkley77, stanbon: Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! y=3x-12
y=4x+2
You can either set these 2 equation equal to one another.
3x-12=4x+2
3x-4x=2+12
-x=14
x=-14 ans.
OR:
Multiply one of the equations by -1 & add them
-y=-3x+12
y=4x+2
-----------------
0=x+14
x=-14 ans.
y=3*-14-12
y=-42-12
y=-54 ans.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Im not sure how to solve the systems of equations graphically.
y=3x-12
y=4x+2
-----------------------
Plot a couple of points and draw a line thru them.
Y = 3x-12
Let x = 0, then y = -12 giving you point (0,-12)
----------
Let x = 2, the y = -6 giving you point (2,-6)
----------

-------------------------------------------------------------------
y = 4x+2
Let x = 0, then y = 2 giving you point (0,2)
Let x = 2, then y = 10 giving you point (2,10)

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Put both graphs on the same coordinate system and determine the
point of intersection:

Solution: (-14,-54)
