a like term means it has the same variables (ie the letters) and these are to the same power...
so...1...both have just an x-term both to the power 1
so...2...one is an x and the other an "xy"...different!
so...3...both are x's but first is raised to power 3 and the second to power 1.
So...what is the answer?

A is right, because they have as a variable
