: Hello. I have a problem that I can graph and get the answer, but can not figure out the equation to get the answer. The question:
If a lone passes through (5,2) and has slope 2/3, then what is the value of y on this line when x=8, x=11, and x=12.
I know by graphing that it is (8,4),(11,6), and (12,6 3/4), but need to show work and also ensure that the estimated 6 3/4 is correct. That was just from eye balling the point on the graph were y intercepts x=12.
Thank you in advance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If a line passes through (5,2) and has slope 2/3, then what is the value of y on this line when x=8, x=11, and x=12.
:
Write an equation using the point/slope formula: y - y1 = m(x + x1)
assign the given values as follows:
x1 = 5; y1 =2; m = 2/3
:
y - 2 = 2%2F3(x - 5)
:
y - 2 = 2%2F3x - 2%2F3*5
:
y - 2 = 2%2F3x - 10%2F3
:
y = 2%2F3x - 10%2F3 + 2
:
y = 2%2F3x - 10%2F3 + 6%2F3
:
y = 2%2F3x - 4%2F3 is the equation
:
x = 8
y = 2%2F3(8) - 4%2F3
y = 16%2F3 - 4%2F3
y = 12%2F3
y = 4
:
x = 11
y = 2%2F3(11) - 4%2F3
y = 22%2F3 - 4%2F3
y = 18%2F3
y = 6
:
You can do x = 12
