Look at the expressions below. Write a narrative description of what you would do to simplify each one.
(16)1/2 the 1/2 is small and out the top right parenthesis.
100 this has a check mark in front that goes across the top of the hundred. I'm not sure what the symbol is called.

The "1/2" is an exponent; it is an instruction to you to "take the
square-root" of 16, which is called the base.
So (16)^(1/2) is another way of expressing the number 4.
Four is the square-root of 16 because 4*4 = 16.

That check mark is also a symbol for root. Where there is no little
index number in front of it, it means "take the square-root". If there
was an index of 3 in front it would mean "take the cube-root".
So your problem says "take the square-root of 100, which is 10.
That is because 10*10= 100
