You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(-3x+5y=40)
(5y+3x=17)
------------
Find the slope, m, of each line by putting into slope-intercept form.
That means solve for y.
-3x+5y=40
5y = 3x + 40
y = (3/5)x + 8
m = 3/5
----------
5y+3x=17
5y = -3x + 17
y = (-3/5)x + 17/5
m = -3/5
---------
To be parallel, the slopes must be equal.
To be perpendicular, they're negative inverses.
These 2 are neither.
-----------
They make the same angle with the axes, one "going up", the other "going down."
