A ship travels 58 km on a bearing of 20 degrees, and then travels on a bearing of 110 degrees for 133 km. Find the distance from the starting point to the end of the trip, to the nearest kilometer.

A ship travels 58 km on a bearing of 20 degrees, and then travels on a bearing of 110 degrees for 133 km. Find the distance from the starting point to the end of the trip, to the nearest kilometer.

2 sides of a triangle are given, 58 and 133 km.
The change in heading from 020º to 110º is 90º, so it's a right triangle.
Use Pythagoras:
s+=+sqrt%2858%5E2+%2B+110%5E2%29
s = 124 km

Since it forms a right triangle after you simplify, therefore:
d = sq. root (58^2 + 133^2)
d = 145-km
