You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you travel for 3 hours at 180mph, the distance covered is:
(3hr)(180mph) = 540 miles.
Now if you travel the same 540 miles in 2.8 hours, your speed is:
540mi/2.8hrs = 192.86mph

.
You will need to apply the distance formula:
d = rt
where
d is distance
r is rate or speed
t is time
.
Let w = air speed
then
3(180-w) = 2.8(180+w)
3(180-w) = 2.8(180+w)
240 - 3w = 504 + 2.8w
240 + 5.8w = 504
5.8w = 264
w = 45.52 mph

You take a airplane ride which takes 3 hrs and you are traveling at 180 mph. No air restrictions. On the way back it only takes you 2.8 hrs. wWat is the air speed?

Step 1. Distance = Speed * Time or Speed = Distance/Time.

Step 2. 3 hours * 180 mph = 540 miles.

Step 3. Speed = 540 miles/ 2.8 hours = 192.8 mph since on the way back it travels the same distance of 540 miles and in less time. So the speed is faster on the way back.

I hope the above steps were helpful.
