Set one leg to x and the hypoteneuse to x+3. Then use the Pythagorean theorem:
x%5E2%2B9%5E2=%28x%2B3%29%5E2
x%5E2%2B81=x%5E2%2B6x%2B9
6x%2B9=81
6x=72
x=12
So the leg is 12, and the hyp. is 12+3=15
