Have you heard of PEMDAS
p---evaluate parentheses
E---apply exponents
MD--multiply and divide from left to right
AS--add and subtract from left to right
----------------------------------------------
Your Problem:

12(9+5)-6 X 3
---
P: gives you 12(14)-6*3
E: there are none
MD: gives you 12*9 + 12*5 - 6* 3
= 108 + 60 - 18
AS: gives you 168-18 = 150
