Since the planes are flying in opposite directions
I can just add the speeds
From 11 am to 2 pm, they have been flying for 3 hrs
Let their combined speed = 3x which is x+%2B+2x
2700+=+3x%2A3
2700+=+9x
x+=+300 mi/hr
2x+=+600 mi/hr
The planes are flying at 300 mi/hr and 600 mi/hr
check:
3x+=+900
2700+=+900%2A3
2700+=+2700
OK
