You can put this solution on YOUR website!
two planes left an airport at noon. One flew east at a certain speed and the other flew east at twice the speed.. the planes were 2700 mi apart in 3 hours how fast was each plane flying?
-------------------------------------
1st plane DATA:
rate = r mph; time = 3 hrs ; distance = 3r miles
------------------------
2nd plane DATA:
rate = 2r mph ; time = 3 hrs ; distance = 6r miles
-------------------------------
Equation:
2nd plane distance - 1st plane distance = 2700 miles
6r - 3r = 2700 miles
3r = 2700
r = 900 mph (rate of the 1st plane)
2r = 1800 mph (rate of the 2nd plane)
