Question 21324: A baker mixes cookies worth $0.95 per pound with cookies worth $1.70 per pound. How many of each kind must be used to produce a 45 pound mixture that sells for $1.25 a pound. I have a benchmark test tomorrow and i don't get how to set up the equations!! If you could tell me how, that would be great. Answer by Paul(988) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 0.95x+1.70(45-x)=1.25(45)
0.95x+76.5-1.7x=56.25
-0.75x=-20.25 (divide both sides by -0.75)
x=27
45-27=18
Hence 0.95 needs 27 pound mixture and the other needs 18 pounds of mixture
