Question 212890: Hello. I do not know if this fits into the right category but I tried my best. Ok so I need help with solving for the variable. I have tried and got some of them but these two I can not seem to get. If you can show me step by step how to do these that would help a ton and thank you in advance. Ok so my question is:
y= u+1/u+2 solve for u
and the other one i did not get is:
ax+b=cx+d solve for x
if you could help me with those I would apreciate it so much!
Thanks for your time,
Kevin

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Well I am glad you asked this because these problems a little challenging. The problem is I'm not sure how to explain how to do this...so i'm just going to take you step by step through the process.
y+=+%28u%2B1%29%2F%28u%2B2%29
First we multiply both sides by (u+2) and get
y%28u%2B2%29+=+%28u%2B1%29
Now we subtract u from both sides.
y%28u%2B2%29-u+=+1
Next we distribute the y.
yu%2B2y-u+=+1
Rearrainging a little we get:
yu-u%2B2y+=+1
now we factor out a u.
u%28y-1%29%2B2y+=+1
subtract 2y from both sides.
u%28y-1%29+=+1-2y
Now we divide both sides by y-1.
u+=+%281-2y%29%2F%28y-1%29

The next problem is somewhat similar to the problem above. First we subtract cx from both sides:
ax%2Bb-cx=d
Next we rearrange a little
ax-cx%2Bb=d
Subtract b from both sides
ax-cx=d-b
Factor out an x
x%28a-c%29=d-b
And divide by a-c
x+=+%28d-b%29%2F%28a-c%29
