The problem is this, Twice the greater of two consecutive odd integers is 13 less than three times the lesser number. Find the integers. Since the two integers are consecutive, the other number is x+2.
Given that, 2(greater number)=3(lesser number)-13.
2(x+2)=3x-13
2x+4=3x-13
Subtract 2x and add 13 on both sides,
2x+4-2x+13=3x-13-2x+13
17=x
Therefore x = 17.
The other number is x+2 = 19.
Hence the intergers are 17 and 19.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let the lesser integer be x, then the next consecutive odd integer is (x+2).
Twice the greater (2(x+2)) is (=) 13 less than three times the lesser (3(x)-13)
Putting it all into an equation:
Simplify and solve for x. Subtract 2x from both sides. Add 13 to both sides.
The two consecutive odd integers are: 17 and 19
Check:
Twice 19 = 38
