This is what I come up with.
5-(8+3x)=2x+3
-40-15X=2X+3
-40-2X-15X=2X-2X+3
-42X-15X=3
-57X=3
(1/57*57/1)X=1/57*3/1
X=-19
Please can someone let me know where I have gone wrong. I have tried several different ways to try and find the answer and I keep getting it wrong.

You should not multiply by 5; you shoud subtract from the 5.
