You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=amount of time it takes Laura to stuff 1000 envelopes by herself
Then Laura stuffs at the rate of 1000/x envelopes per hour
Linda stuffs at the rate of 1000/6 envelopes per hour
Together Laura nad Linda stuffs at the rate of 1000/5.5 envelopes per hour
So our equation to solve is:
1000/6 + 1000/x=1000/5.5 divide each term by 1000
1/6+1/x=1/5.5 multiply each term by 33x
5.5x+33=6x subtract 5.5x from each side
33=6x-5.5x
0.5x=33 divide each side by 0.5
x=66 hours -------amount of time it takes Laura to stuff 1000 envelopes
CK
1/6 + 1/66=1/5.5
11/66 + 1/66=1/5.5
12/66=1/5.5
1/5.5=1/5.5
WOW!!!! Laura is Slooooooooooooow.

Hope this helps---ptaylor
