You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2p+e=.55
p+2e=.95 or p=.95-2e
Now replace p in the first equation by (.95-2e) & solve for e
2(.95-2e)+e=.55
1.90-4e+e=.55
-3e=.55-1.90
-3e=-1.35
e=-135/-3
e=$.45 is the price of one eraser.
2p+.45=55
2p=55-45
2p=10
p=.10/2
p=$.05 is the price of one pencil.
Proof:
.05+2*.45=.95
.05+.90=.95
.95=.95
.05+.45=$.50 is the price of one pencil plus one eraser.
