You can put this solution on YOUR website!
At 1:30 an airplane leaves Tucson for Baltimore, a distance of 2240 miles.
The plane flies at 280 miles per hour.
A second airplane leaves Tucson at 2:15 pm and is scheduled to land in Baltimore
15 minutes before the first airplane.
At what rate must the second airplane travel to arrive on schedule?
:
Find the travel time of the 1st airplane
2240%2F280 = 8 hrs
should arrive at Baltimore in 8 hrs, at 9:30
therefore
The 2nd plane, 15 min earlier, should arrive at 9:15
2nd plane travel time: 9:15 - 2:15 = 7 hrs
:
Find the speed of the 2nd plane
2240%2F7 = 320 mph to accomplish this
