Question 20812: hello. I've been trying to help my daughter with these two problems but cannot figure it out.
Define a variable, write an inequality and solve problem:

1. The sum of 4 times a number and 7 is less than 3 times that number
2. The sum of two numbers is 100. One number is at least 16 more thanthe other number. What are the two numbers?

Thank you so much. Renee

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. 4x+7<3x
7 x<7
2.Let the samller number be x
Let the bigger number be represented by x+16
16+x+x=100
2x+16-16=100-16
2x=84
2x%2F2=84%2F2
x=42, 42+16=58. Hence the two numbers are 42 and 58.
