You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1. Two cars start from the same point at the same time and travel in opposite directions. The faster car travels 12 miles per hour faster than the other. If after six hours, the cars are 648 kilometers apart, what is the speed of each car?
2. Two ships leave North Harbor and sail in opposite directions. if the faster ship travels at a rate of 42 kph and the slower ship sails at a rate of 34kph, in how many hours will the two ships be 190 kilometers apart?

Post or email via the thank you note how you tried #1 and #2.

3. A train left the station at 9 a.m. traveling at 50 mph. At 11 p.m., an airplane left the same place in the direction at 175 mph. At what time did the plane overtake the train?
In 2 hours, the train goes 100 miles.
The airplane gains on the train at (175 - 50) mph, = 125 mph.
It takes 100/125 hours to catch up, = 0.8 hours or 48 minutes.
