Question 204940: the problem is. The percentage of law degrees earned by women has steadily increased over the past decade. The percentage for both women and men for various years are listed below.(these are the years the problem has listed) 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996. ( this is the percentage of women with law degrees for these years) 39, 41, 42, 43, 43, 44. ( this is the percentage of men with law degrees for these years) 61, 59, 58, 57, 57, 56.If you line the years up starting with 1986 verticaly and do the same with the percentage of women line up verticaly starting with 39 and do the same for the men line them up verticaly starting with 61. You should have three vertical rows. The first question ask? find f(t), the equation for the percentage of women with law degrees at t years since 1980. The second question? Find m(t), the equation for the percentage of men with law degrees at t years since 1980. The third question is? When will there be an equal percentage of men and women with law degrees? And the last question for this problem is? When will more women than men have earned law degrees? Pleas help me with this problem it is going to be on my final for monday. Thank you.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Comment: I assume you can line up these columns.
You could let 1986 be represented by 6; then '88 is 8, '90 is 10, etc.
That way your x-values are "the number of years after 1980"

The first question asks? find f(t), the equation for the percentage of women with law degrees at t years since 1980.
f(t) = 0.457143t + 36.971429...
---------------
The second question? Find m(t), the equation for the percentage of men with law degrees at t years since 1980.
m(t) = -0.457143 + 63.028571...
---------------
The third question is? When will there be an equal percentage of men and women with law degrees?
Equate f(t) and m(t) and solve for "t".
---------------
And the last question for this problem is? When will more women than men have earned law degrees?
Solve f(t)>m(t) for t
