Multiply thru the 2nd equation by 12

8x + 3y = 24
8x - 7y = -36
------------------------
Subtract the 2nd from the 1st to solve for "y":
10y = 60
y = 6
------------
Substitute into 8x + 3y = 24 to solve for "x":
8x + 18 = 24
8x = 6
x = 3/4

Ans: (3/4 , 6)
