: Solve for x: 24/8x - x/3 = 3-x/6.
I have tried multiplying by the lcd, I have mulitplied by 8x to try and clear the fractions, but I think I am missing a step somewhere and I cannot figure it out. I looked in the back of the book and found the answers are x=3 or x=-6, but I cannot see how that is possible. Thank you in advance for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the LCD for 8x, 3, and 6 is 24x

24/8x - x/3 = (3-x) / 6

72 - 8x^2 = 12x - 4x^2 ___ 0 = 4x^2 + 12x - 72 ___ 0 = x^2 + 3x - 18

factoring ___ 0 = (x + 6)(x - 3)
