2x + 2 = 16
2x = 14

With the variable in the argument of the log function we need to rewrite the equation in exponential form to "get at" the x.
log%282%2C+%282x%2B2%29%29+=+4
2x+%2B+2+=+2%5E4
2x+%2B+2+=+16
Now we have a very simple equation to solve.
Subtract 2 from both sides:
2x+=+14
Divide both sides by 2:
x+=+7
